Interview Tips

Interview Do Not’s

In a professional environment, many things happen fast. This is especially true for new potential employees. Decisions will be made quickly about how qualified someone is for a job. In order to make these decisions positive, here are five things to avoid in an interview setting:

  1. Don’t disregard instructions- It is important to follow the instructions for the application process. It will ensure that you get the best chance of showing what you can bring to the table.
  2. Don’t show up late- Managers sacrifice a lot of time to go through the interview process, especially if there is a panel that has to coordinate schedules. If you are late, it shows a lack of respect before you even get the chance to shake hands.
  3. Don’t “wing it”- Sometimes the interviewer will ask you to prepare then present something during the interview. If this is the case, invest more time in it, rather than less. Make sure it is polished.
  4. Don’t use negative comments- You don’t need to discuss why you don’t deserve the job. If you weren’t qualified, you would not have been invited for the interview. Talk about your strengths.
  5. Don’t second guess yourself- Confidence in your abilities is very apparent and important. Have the confidence you should in your ability to be an asset to the team.

Now you know some tricks of the trade, go have some great interviews!
