A Quick Tip for Job Seekers
October 07, 2016
We want to help you work at the best place ever, so we are collecting resumes. We are receiving resumes and cover letters from many individuals who are looking to work here in OIT. When we get a new resume, we pass it on to the hiring managers. We also keep a copy on file for about 6 months, so future hiring managers can see the resumes as well. If you are a good fit, we will contact you and let you know that a job is open so that you can apply. So use the “Contact Us” link to send in your resume!

Next Steps
July 20, 2016
After submitting an application for an open position, many candidates are concerned if they do not hear back within a couple days. To assuage any fears or concerns that you may have, know that the hiring manager could take up to two weeks after the posting has closed to notify applicants of their status. While you are waiting for news, we encourage you to check out our benefits. Take some time to read about our culture. It won’t be long before you hear back from us.

Campus Wide Postings
October 01, 2015
We realize that there will be times when there are no openings listed for students or full-time employees at OIT. When this happens, there are two websites that have postings for all of BYU. One is jobs.byu.edu, which is the site for students. This site has positions listed from many departments, with many functions. You may find a job that interests you in a different department. If you are looking for full time employment, yjobs.byu.edu is the website for you. This is the same website that we post our openings on, but it also has all positions across BYU listed. These may have a position that you would be interested in. Above all, remember to check back often. You never know what might have changed from last time!
For student employment:
STUDENTJOBS.BYU.EDUFor full-time employment:
YJOBS.BYU.EDU

Interview Do Not’s
September 17, 2015
In a professional environment, many things happen fast. This is especially true for new potential employees. Decisions will be made quickly about how qualified someone is for a job. In order to make these decisions positive, here are five things to avoid in an interview setting:
- Don’t disregard instructions- It is important to follow the instructions for the application process. It will ensure that you get the best chance of showing what you can bring to the table.
- Don’t show up late- Managers sacrifice a lot of time to go through the interview process, especially if there is a panel that has to coordinate schedules. If you are late, it shows a lack of respect before you even get the chance to shake hands.
- Don’t “wing it”- Sometimes the interviewer will ask you to prepare then present something during the interview. If this is the case, invest more time in it, rather than less. Make sure it is polished.
- Don’t use negative comments- You don’t need to discuss why you don’t deserve the job. If you weren’t qualified, you would not have been invited for the interview. Talk about your strengths.
- Don’t second guess yourself- Confidence in your abilities is very apparent and important. Have the confidence you should in your ability to be an asset to the team.

Interview Do’s
September 17, 2015
The secret to a good interview is a good impression. Here are five tips to help your first impression be stellar:
- Be professional- If you are applying for a job, let them know you are ready to fill all of the responsibilities. Show the interview panel that you take this seriously.
- Dress for the job- The common practice is to find out what the dress standards are for the job, then go one step above that for the interview.
- Be enthusiastic- Especially at BYU, we are hiring you onto a team that is unified. You will love it, so be to be happy.
- Show your strengths- Humility is important, but too much is a flaw. Say what your strengths are and why they make you the best candidate.
- Arrive on time- The rule of thumb is five to ten minutes early for the actual interview time. Let them know you are here, and take the extra time to prepare.
